Delta Police Victim Services provides Emergency Care Kits to Delta citizens leaving abusive relationships. These kits consist of a cloth drawstring bag containing toiletries, bus passes, and other basic comfort items to get them through a critical time. Our guild was asked if we would be willing to make these cloth bags, and we have supplied them with over 500 so far.
The bag can be made from fabric scraps, using children’s, women’s, or men’s material – whatever you have lying around or spare. A piece of cording is required for a drawstring, which we can supply if needed.
If you have travel-size toiletries to donate, we will gladly pass them on too when donating the cloth bags to Delta Victim Services.

Bag Instructions
_________________________________________
A very simple, basic drawstring bag with a finished size of 14 x 16 inches is exactly what D.O.V.E. requires:
- Cut 2 pieces of fabric 14.5 x 16.5”, or use a single piece 28.5 x 16.5”. Bags may also be sewn using several different fabrics to create interest or use up remnants.
- With wrong sides together, sew ¼ inch seams with zig-zag or serger stitching, leaving one shorter side open.
- Fold over the edges of the open 4th side and straight-stitch the drawstring channel – remembering to leave one small opening for inserting cord.
- Turn right side out, insert drawstring (if you have one), and bring to the next Guild meeting.
Both bags and toiletries may be left in the plastic DOVE donation bin located at the Membership table.
Note: The drawstring needs to be approximately 32” long. (Ribbons, or new/un-used/spare skateboard and runner shoelaces can work well as drawstrings also.)
Thank you!
