4 shades each of reddish orange fabric and 4 shades of green fabric
From each color group, cut:
1 square (A) 2⅞” x 2⅞”
1 rectangle (B) 1½” x 2½”
1 rectangle (D) 2½” x 3½”
1 rectangle (F) 3½” x 5½”
1 rectangle (H) 4½” x 8½”
Black fabric
1 square (C) 1½” x 1½”
2 squares (E) 2½” x 2½”
1 square (G) 3½” x 3½”
1 rectangle (I) 2½” x 4½”
Blue fabric
1 square (E) 2½” x 2½”
Sew the patches together as shown to complete the block.
Triangle Block
With right sides together and the lighter
fabric on top, pair an orange (A) to a
green (A) 2⅞” x 2⅞” square.
Draw a diagonal line, corner to corner.
This is the cutting line.
Stitch ¼” on both sides of the line.
Cut on solid line. Press to orange = 2½” square
You will have made 2 but only need 1 for the block. Maybe make another block!!
Following the colored diagram for reference………
- Sew blue and black 2½” x 2½” (E) together. Press to black.
- Sew black 2½” x 4½” (I) to bottom of above (E) unit. Press to black.
- Sew green 4½” x 8½”’ (H) to right side of above unit.
- Sew green 1½” x 2½” (B) to top of triangle block, checking direction of orange/green triangles. Diag. 3
- Sew black 1½” x 1½ (C) to top of orange 1½” x 2½” (B). Press to orange.**
- Join to left side of triangle unit, matching seams.
- Sew green 2½” x 3½” (D) to top of above unit. Press to green.
- Sew black 2½” x 2½” (E) to top of orange 2½” x 3½” (D). Press to orange.
- Join to left side of above unit, abutting seams.
- Sew green 3½” x 5½” (F) to top of above unit. Press to triangle unit.**
- Sew black 3½” x 3½” (G) to top of orange 3½” x 5½” (F). Press to black.
- Join to left side of above unit, abutting seams. Press to G/F unit.**
- Join orange 4½” x 8½” (H) to left side of above unit. Press to (F)
Sew the two units together, making sure the blue square is in the top left corner.
